    Hayward items that are damaged due to owner neglect or poor water chemistry are NOT covered under warranty.

Does the Platinum Hayward warranty cover everything that can go wrong with my Hayward equipment?

     The answer, unfortunately, is no. The number one reason your warranty may not cover something is when the damage is caused by poor water chemistry (see photo below.)

      What does poor water chemistry mean? Basically, if the water has a high pH level (above 8.6, but damage can occur at lower levels) or a very high chlorine level it can and most likely will damage the internals of your heater. In extreme cases a pH level of 9.5 or higher can damage just about every Hayward item in your pool. It is essential that you keep you pH between 7.4 and 7.6. Even if you fix the damage could still have happened. Make sure to regularly check your water to avoid this occurance. You can purchase a digital water test from AquaSun Pools and Spas, Inc. for $179.00. This tester does pH, salt, TDS (total dissolved solids), and temperature levels instantly. All you have to so is take a small sampleof water from your pool, place the tester in the sample and read the results. This can eliminate frequent trips to the pool store.

      This photo shows damage to a H400IDL2 heat exchanger. The p H level of this water was too high and caused damage to the copper in the heat exchanger. You can see this by the green discoloration of the end tubes on the heat exchanger. Unfortunately, this is an expensive repair (around $1300.)
